Iowa has put together a strong recruiting class so far for the class of 2016 but one of the missing pieces is a quarterback. They have two primary targets right now but the latest buzz suggests that the focus is on Belton (Texas) signal caller Peyton Mansell. Mansell collected an offer from the Hawkeyes not long ago and has been in contact with a few other Iowa targets, as well as commit Eno Benjamin.
Mansell made news last night when he used his twitter account to announce when he'd be making his college choice. It will come on June 20 and the Hawkeyes prove to be squarely in the mix when he makes his commitment.
Not only that but Mansell has also scheduled a visit to Iowa for June 17. That is a sign of good news for the Hawkeyes. Iowa is his lone power five offer at this time. Mansell also has offers from San Diego State, North Texas and North Dakota State. However, a few other schools are beginning to circle and pinpoint him such as fellow Big Ten programs Illinois and Minnesota. The Illini did just receive a commitment from an in-state quarterback so their pursuit may trail off.
More evidence that Iowa is trending well for Mansell is not only his relationships with prospects such as Eno Benjamin and Camron Buckely, but also more in terms of his twitter account. He tweeted it out soon after he received a scholarship offer from the Hawkeyes but he has since kept it pinned to the top of his page.
"I really like that it's a high caliber school and that it is a high character program," Mansell said of Iowa when offered.
He confirmed to Scout that he indeed would be making the trek to Iowa City in a week.
"I'll be visiting Iowa on June 17. Things have been going very well with them."
