Iowa's class took a hit when Juan Harris departed about a week ago but their back to 10 in the commit column. The Hawkeyes landed their quarterback in Belton (Texas) signal caller Peyton Mansell.
Mansell visited Iowa earlier in the week followed up by a Minnesota visit. The Gophers were a threat at one time due to Mansell being from Minnesota and growing up a fan of the Gophers. Coming from a military family, Mansell moved to Texas from Minnesota.
Mansell camped in Minneapolis but did not reel in an offer. That made the choice to commit to the Hawkeyes easy for him but Iowa was likely the favorite regardless.
Not only does Mansell give Iowa their signal caller for the class but he should also be instrumental in luring in others with him. Knowing who the quarterback will be in the class eases the mind of wideouts when they're considering a school and he should also be integral in the barrage on Texas that the Hawkeyes have performed. Eno Benjamin has been impactful in that regard and Mansell will only increase that presence. He has a strong relationship with some of the top Texas stars, including top Iowa wide receiver target Camron Buckley.
It may be just the start of a strong week for the Hawkeyes. They host their biggest recruiting weekend of the summer this weekend that will have Texas wideout Gavin Holmes in attendance and also receiver Brandon Smith of Mississippi. Fellow Texan Matt Hankins will also be in town, one of Iowa's top defensive back targets that recently included Iowa in his top four.
