Iowa's recruiting onslaught on the state of Texas continues. They have already secured two verbals from the Lone Star State in quarterback Peyton Mansell and running back Eno Benjamin but that may not be the end of it. On campus during this week was another visitor and the best cornerback in Texas, Chevin Calloway.
He's one of three secondary players in Texas that will visit Iowa this week as Matt Hankins and Longhorns commit Kobe Boyce will also embark on Iowa City this weekend.
The visit proved to be a success for Iowa while hosting Calloway this week. He also enjoyed his time with Hawkeye senior and defending Jim Thorpe Award winner Desmond King according to his tweet following the trip.
Calloway has an excellent offer sheet that also includes Alabama, Baylor, LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas, Miami, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Ohio State, TCU, UCLA, Arizona State, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Wisconsin in addition to the Hawkeyes. Iowa has not normally floated with this kind of company but they may be here to stick around for Calloway's services.
"Loved it," he told Scout about his visit. "Great coaches, great players, great alumni, great development in young men they try and help to be successful, not just in football but life."
Calloway has yet to list a top list of schools or favorites in his recruitment but that time is about to come. He'll release a top group in about two weeks and it's fair to say that the Iowa Hawkeyes have a fair chance to make that cut according to his comments about an official visit to Iowa.
"Yes, I will (take an official visit to Iowa)," Calloway confirmed.
NOTE: Calloway's teammate, defensive tackle Damion Daniels (who also holds an Iowa offer), was not able to make the trip due to an illness.
