Iowa TE George Kittle Named to Mackey Award Watch List

Iowa tight end George Kittle has been named to the Mackey Award watch list.

The preseason watch lists continue as Iowa tight end George Kittle was named to the John Mackey Award watch list. The trophy is handed out annually to the nation's top tight end by the Mackey Award Committee.

Kittle will be the starting tight end for the Hawkeyes this season for the first time in his career after the departure of his cousin Henry Krieger Coble who graduated and signed as a free agent with the Denver Broncos.

He played in all 14 games a year ago despite being hampered by injury in a few contests. Kittle only hauled in 20 catches for 290 yards but lead the team with six touchdown receptions. His touchdown reception against Wisconsin proved to be the decisive factor in Iowa's 10-6 victory over Wisconsin. He's on the brink of a breakout season in 2016. He's been named by Athlon Sports as preseason fourth team all-Big Ten.

Kittle is also a three-time all-Big Ten academic honoree.

Iowa's only Mackey Award winner was Dallas Clark in 2002.
