It began during the Iowa Spring Game in April but it appears to now be permanent. We saw that quarterback Ryan Boyle played wideout during the Spring Game but he's now listed as a wide receiver on the roster. It comes as no surprise. It'll be very interesting to see how much of an immediate role he can have at his new position. The success was instant as he scored a touchdown in April against the defense. With the depth chart being what it is, Boyle should have a chance to see the field as a receiver sooner rather than later.

We knew where the majority of the true freshmen were going to begin their career in terms of position. There were a few question marks due to the position versatility of some of their new recruits. We have some clarity now. Manny Rugamba will enter fall camp as a corner. Shaun Beyer will enter fall camp as a tight end along with Noah Fant and T.J. Hockenson. Kristian Welch will begin as a linebacker along with Barrington Wade and Nick Niemann. Austin Schulte will start fall camp as a defensive end.

He wasn't with the Iowa football team for spring practice but news came down that the Hawkeyes had added a punter in Central Michigan transfer Ron Coluzzi. He's now listed on the roster and will be with the team for fall camp. He will figure prominently in the punter battle, most likely against Colten Rastetter. The kicker job will still likely come down to Mick Ellis and Miguel Recinos.

One name was left off the Iowa roster, indicating that he is no longer with the program and that is defensive lineman Brant Gressel. Gressel was one of the couple Hawkeye football players that had a run-in with the police in the offseason. His departure opens up another scholarship spot on the roster. That has benefited a couple walk-ons at Iowa as free safety Brandon Snyder and long-snapper Tyler Kluver have been rewarded with scholarships in the offseason.
