There's no mystery on who one of the top targets left on the board is for Iowa. Russ Yeast is listed as an athlete by Scout, but the Hawkeyes are looking to add the four-star prospect to their secondary. He's one of the more dynamic threats in the 2017 class and has the ability to star as either a receiver or defensive back.
Yeast could probably have his pick on where he wants to play and who for. His tape best shows him showcasing his skills as a lockdown corner. He has the measurables to go with the talent as well, standing at 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds. Yeast will be able to add a little more bulk and strength once he gets to college and already has the hip flexibility and quickness to translate well to the next level.
He just completed a tour that saw him visit all of his favorites which included Auburn, Ole Miss, Illinois, Northwestern, and Louisville in addition to the Hawkeyes. His trip to Iowa City was his last one before returning to his high school team to get to work for the 2016 season.
"It was a really good visit overall," Yeast told Scout. "I loved the facilities and coaches as always. I also really liked the academic presentation."
Hawkeye Insider was able to uncover the recruiting pitch that the Iowa coaching staff is delivering to the third best athlete in the Midwest.
"They just tell me to come to Iowa and I will have a great academic and athletic experience," Yeast shared. "They say I will be developed and that they're losing both starting corners. They're letting me know the playing time that will be available and the opportunity that I could have there."
What's next for Yeast? He provided that information but there isn't a lot of clarity at this point.
"It's still around the same six schools and I haven't narrowed it back down at all," he pointed out. "I don't have a timetable for a decision and I won't be making any more trips until my official visits."
