Prospect name: Kyle Williams
Position: OLB/FB
Measurables: 6-2/215/4.5/300
High School (Hometown): Bolingbrook HS (Bolingbrook Ill..)

Notes: Williams, the No. 15 prospect in the nation according to, named Iowa his leader back in June and has visited Iowa City twice but still mentions Miami, UCLA, Ohio State and Oklahoma when he's asked about his top 5 schools. Midwest Recruiting Analyst Chris Pool rated Williams the No. 1 overall prospect in the Big Ten region. Williams had 80 tackles, six sacks and six INTs last season. Williams also placed sixth at the Class AA state wrestling meet last March in the 215-weight class. Carries about a 2.5 GPA and is improving his grades steadily. Bolingbrook is the alma mater of Hawkeye freshman RB A.J. Johnson and former Hawk Earnest Crank.

Let's go to the film…

Positives: Williams definitely has explosiveness and knows how to get to the football. Plays with confidence. A very rangy outside backer who does very well in his drops and can catch up with receivers out of the backfield. Really dangerous when is allowed to get after the passer. Combination of skills makes him a terrific "edge" prospect. Is a legit 6-2 and has the frame to add 25-30 more pounds of muscle without slowing down. As good as he is, Kyle's best football is yet to be played.

Negatives: Is instinctive but yet still sometimes overruns the play. Definitely needs to bulk up to avoid being one-dimensional. Doesn't always square up and isn't a great form tackler. Will need to adjust when he gets into a college system that will ask to make more reads and be more disciplined with his assignments.

Summary: Kyle Williams will present the college that is lucky enough to earn his services with a slightly raw but extremely talented outside/"Will" linebacker. If he continues to focus on getting better, Williams has an almost limitless ceiling as a defensive football player. Has a similar makeup to that of former Michigan State/current San Francisco 49ers OLB Julian Peterson. Overall rating: 4.42.

(Ratings key: 5.0=Top national prospect at his position; 4.0=Very good Big Ten prospect; 3.0=Lower Big Ten prospect; 2.0=More likely a MAC, I-AA or invited walk-on prospect; 1.0 Marginal walk-on possibility.)

Next time in the Film Room we'll catch a glimpse of Cedar Rapids Washington WR/S Adrian Arrington.
