There's a clear pecking order of who Iowa would like to finish out the class with and one of those prospects has set the date for his official visit to Iowa City. The Hawkeyes will host four-star athlete Russ Yeast the weekend of September 10. He will be in town for the weekend of the Iowa State game in Kinnick Stadium. That is proving to be quite the recruiting weekend for the Hawkeyes as they will have a lot of top talent on hand for that contest, from both the 2017 and 2018 classes.
This will be a big visit for Yeast, who confirmed the visit with Derek Young of Hawkeye Insider. Iowa is in contention with Auburn, Ole Miss, Louisville, Alabama, Northwestern and Illinois for Yeast's services so it is important they hit a home run with every chance they get. But it's crucial for Yeast in his recruitment too as he continues to learn more about Iowa, and he'll be bringing a special visitor along with him.
"I want to see what game day is like at Iowa," Yeast said, as he's never been to a game yet in Iowa City. "And my mom hasn't seen Iowa yet."
It's always a critical step once recruits bring their parents to see a school. They are a big part of the recruiting process as well.
Yeast also offered up some comments on the defensive back situation at Iowa, since they are primarily recruiting him for the secondary still. The Hawkeyes have five commits designated for the defensive backfield at this time already. Does that impact his decision process?
"The other kids committed won't really affect my decision," he admitted. "But Iowa is still recruiting me as mainly a defensive back."
Yeast now has two official visits lined up as he aims to visit Auburn the weekend of September 3 and Iowa the weekend of September 10. He will also still plan to take official visits to his other finalists as well.
