Coach Ferentz Suspends Two Hawkeyes.

Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz took action against two Hawkeyes for offseason incidents that proved damaging to the team. Senior offensive line Sam Aiello and junior defensive lineman Derreck Robinson will miss the Aug. 30 season opener againt Miami of Ohio. Additionally, Robinson will be held out of the Week 2 contest against Buffalo.

IOWA CITY, IA. _ Senior Sam Aiello and junior Derreck Robinson have been given one and two game suspensions, respectively. The announcement came today from Iowa Head Football Coach Kirk Ferentz.

Both players were cited for conduct detrimental to the team. According to Ferentz, both players violated team policies during the spring semester. Aiello will miss the Miami of Ohio game while Robinson will miss that one and the Buffalo contest the following week. Both players, according to Ferentz, will be in good standing, with the team, once the suspensions are served.

"Sam and Derek are both guilty of making poor choices this past semester," said Ferentz. "I am confident they will learn from their mistakes and become solid team members for the remainder of their careers at Iowa."

Aiello entered fall practice listed as the number two offensive right tackle. He has started a number of games during a career that has been plagued by injuries. Robinson played in 11 games and collected six tackles as a defensive end last year. He is also listed as a backup end on the current depth chart. Both players have won two letters.
