Iowa has made wide receiver a priority in the 2017 class and that appears to be the trend in 2018 as well. The Hawkeyes have sought out talented playmakers and 3-star Tyrone Tracy is no different. He's listed as an athlete, but plays a lot of running back for his team, returns kicks, and catches passes.
His coaches do whatever they can to get the ball in his hands and with his talent, why wouldn't you?
"I felt extremely blessed and excited to get an offer from such a big school in the Big Ten," Tracy told Scout about the offer from the Hawkeyes. This gives Tracy three Big Ten schools on his offer sheet, but that could be changing soon. Along with the Hawkeyes; Illinois, Northwestern, Central Michigan, Bowling Green, and Cincinnati are all in on Tracy early on in his junior season.
Kelvin Bell, Iowa's football recruiting coordinator, is the man currently recruiting Tracy. "Coach Bell is recruiting me at the time and he [Bell] said I can play slot receiver or running back. They just want the ball in my hands," he told me regarding where Iowa sees him playing at on the field.
As far as a list of top schools go, Tracy had this to say, "Well, I have to meet the coaches and see how interested they [Iowa] are in me and see the program and watch their offense to see if it fits me, but as of now they are at the top with Cincinnati and Northwestern."
This is the second recruit in as many days to push the Hawkeyes to the top of their list shortly after the offer.
When I asked what was most attractive about the Iowa program, Tracy said "The success they've been having in the past years, plus I can see myself in an Iowa uniform."
It's still early in the recruiting process for this talented athlete, but Tracy isn't wasting much time.
"I want to make a decision by the end of this season or the beginning of next season," he admitted when asked when he'd be choosing which school he was going to attend.
He told me that he'd be at Michigan State this weekend and will be at Indiana soon after.
When asked if he'd be visiting Iowa City he said "Yes, I am coming down there for the Michigan game in November."
