Quarterback Hunt

With the loss of Jon Beutjer, it became even more apparent to the coaching staff at Iowa that there is a need to sign a big-time QB in this year's class. The staff is now out on the trail calling and visiting some of the nation's top signal callers. The feeling is that if the Hawks continue to play well, they will land a QB of their choice.

What Quarterbacks are the staff primarily looking at, you might ask? So far, the staff has really focused on the athletic type of QB, that has been a huge success in college football the past few years.

These targets include Gavin Dickey, James Banks, Marcus Vick, and Vincent Young. In fact, Dickey recently moved Iowa into his top five (Lemming's Profile). I had the chance to speak to Marcus Vick, and here is what he said about Iowa.

"I don't know much about them, but I'm always willing to give them a chance. I've never seen them play or anything, but I hear that good things are on the way. If I like what I see, and I think there is a shot that I will, I'll for sure give them serious consideration. Right now, I'm just looking for a great school that will have many threats for me to work with."

At this point, Miami(FL), Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, and Virginia are at top of Marcus's list, but it would be quite a coupe if Iowa was able to slide up his list. Marcus wants to red-shirt. But if he were to come to Iowa, I doubt there would be a problem in getting Marcus some action.

The Iowa staff is also going to look at some of the top JUCO QB's out in the nation, and they still have an offer out for QB Jason Manson. He comes from Bloomfield, CT, same school as Jermelle Lewis, and Coach O'Keefe has done a good job of recruiting him.

Expect the staff to sign two quarterbacks in this class, but one thing is for sure, they are out for a QB that can step in and compete right away with our limited depth at QB. It should be fairly interesting to see what a few wins could do for this staff out on the recruiting trail!!!!
