Iowa received good news on the recruiting trail a couple weeks ago when Mequon (Wisc.) Homestead linebacker Mike Bruner made the call to commit. Kirk Ferentz and the Hawkeyes couldn't have gotten better news at a better of time. They were going through a time of struggle and negative momentum on the recruiting trail. Bruner cheered them up pretty quickly.
Bruner chose the Hawkeyes over his other offer which was from Iowa State. He also was receiving serious interest from Wisconsin and Michigan State.
"Just the feeling that I'm apart of another family when I'm in Iowa made sure that it was the place for me," he told Scout following his commitment.
The decision to become a Hawk came soon after yet another trip to Iowa City when they hosted the Badgers.
"The visit was great," Bruner shared. "It was a great game to watch and I had a great talk with Coach Wallace about football and everything after the game. They plan on playing me at linebacker. We were thinking outside linebacker because of my athleticism and flexibility."
Hawkeye assistant Seth Wallace was back in Wisconsin during the bye week to visit the school of Bruner once again. He has to love what he sees so far as Bruner will be one of the top rated linebackers in the Midwest once the rankings are extended for the 2018 class.
