One of the main visitors for Iowa when they hosted Wisconsin a few weekends ago was three-star defensive tackle Kendrick Green of Peoria, Illinois. He holds an offer from the Hawkeyes as well as Minnesota, Syracuse, and several MAC programs. He projects as a defensive tackle but could also switch over and play on the interior of the offensive line.
Iowa sees Green as a defensive tackle and is someone they've locked in on at the position. They're looking to add another body in the middle of their defensive front and he certainly fits the bill. His visit to Iowa City was a positive move for both sides.
"It was great," Green said. "I loved it."
"The stadium was packed," he continued. "And I was able to take a look at the campus and the dorms so I enjoyed that."
The Hawkeyes did fall to the Badgers 17-9 but that did not negatively impact his time on campus. As I always say, winning definitely helps, but it's just a part in the decision. Iowa did go 12-0 in the regular season ago and are 5-3 for this year. A few losses isn't going to run recruiting in the ground. There are many aspects that go into a decision. It can make it tougher in some scenarios but doesn't eliminate them in some circumstances.
For instance, 2018 linebacker Mike Bruner of Wisconsin gave Iowa his verbal commitment soon after the loss to Wisconsin.
Green put it all in perspective and perfectly indicated how it is viewed.
"Winning definitely matters and it's important, but that's not necessarily what I was looking at when I decided to come in for a visit," he explained. "I was more focused on the game day atmosphere and looking at the campus. I was still able to enjoy it and get everything accomplished that I wanted to. I know about the wins and losses. It matters but I came to get a better idea of everything else."
The Hawkeyes appear to be in the driver's seat for Green and were on hand for his game last week. His visit to campus was of the unofficial variety. He still plans to take an official visit to Iowa City as well. He'll be at Central Florida for an official visit this weekend.
