Iowa Continues to Rise with In-State Junior John Waggoner

Iowa impresses in-state junior John Waggoner again.

Iowa's top target in-state perhaps is West Des Moines (Iowa) Dowling defensive end John Waggoner. He's a 6-foot-5, 230 pound junior that leads a vaunted defensive attack that will be playing for a state championship this weekend against Oliver Martin and Iowa City West.

Waggoner has netted offers so far from the Hawkeyes, as well as Iowa State. He'll likely add a handful of more offers as his recruiting process progresses but it may not happen for him until the Spring. Will his recruitment last that long? That's another question.

For now, he is high on the Hawkeyes and was back in Iowa City yet again over the weekend to take in the massive upset of Michigan.

"It was an awesome visit," Waggoner said. "The atmosphere was insane. There's so many diehard Iowa fans."

Waggoner got a good taste of that when he stormed the field with everyone else in Kinnick Stadium after Keith Duncan nailed the field goal to give the Hawkeyes a victory over #2 Michigan.

"I rushed the field with some of the other recruits there and a bunch of fans," he shared. "It was kind of a gradual storm so it didn't get too scary. The majority of folks were out there already. It was awesome to see all of the ecstatic fans."

It was a visit that once again benefited Iowa in the pursuit of Waggoner. The Hawkeyes are in a good spot for the budding defensive end from Iowa but don't expect a decision to come anytime soon.

"Iowa is very appealing right now but I'm not ready for a decision yet," Waggoner pointed out.
