The uphill climb for the Iowa Hawkeyes got a little steeper as the school announced that freshman Tyler Cook will miss the next three weeks with a fractured right index finger.
The injury took place in practice while the team was in Destin, Florida for the Emerald Coast Classic. The Hawkeyes lost both games to Virginia and Memphis. Cook had surgery to repair the fracture today and did not make the trip with the team to South Bend to play Notre Dame in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge.
“After discussions with Tyler and the medical staff, it was determined that surgery was the best treatment for Tyler in terms of proper healing and recovery time,” said head coach Fran McCaffery. “We expect Tyler to make a full recovery and look forward to him rejoining his teammates on the court soon.”
Cook is second on the team in scoring averaging 13.7 points a game and second on the team in rebounding at 5.3 a game. He's the second Hawkeye to go down for an extended period of time, joining Dale Jones. Jones will be out a couple months still with a fractured wrist.
