Iowa hasn't had a ton of good recruiting news lately, in fact it has been pretty negative. However, there's a four-star linebacker from Spanish Fort, Alabama that can change that in an instant.
Thomas Johnston has scheduled his official visit to Iowa for this weekend after an in-home visit with a Hawkeye assistant.
"Iowa coach Seth Wallace visited me last night," Johnston said. "I knew that I might visit Iowa but wanted to discuss it with him when he came. It's scheduled now for this weekend."
Johnston has an excellent offer sheet that also includes Arkansas, LSU, Auburn, Clemson, Cal, Louisville, Georgia Tech, NC State, Mississippi State, Michigan State, Ole Miss and Arizona State in addition to Iowa. The four-star is highly thought of by Scout, rated as the fourth best inside linebacker in the south, the ninth best inside linebacker in the nation and slotted at #257 in the Scout300.
What has the Hawkeyes in good favor with him? They were one of the firsts to offer, have maintained a strong relationship with them, and he has ties to the state.
"I have an aunt and an uncle that live in Cedar Rapids," Johnston confirmed. "I also have a set of grandparents that live in Cresco."
The official visit will obviously be an impactful one for Iowa. It is their chance to leave a mark on his recruitment.
Johnston has narrowed his list to six schools; Iowa, Arizona State, Arkansas, LSU, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss. Arkansas was in Alabama this evening for an in-home visit with him. The other schools are expected to stop by soon as well.
