Signed: Iowa QB Peyton Mansell

Hawkeye Insider takes a look at each Iowa signee.

COMMIT DATE: June 20, 2016

EVALUATION: He was a bit overlooked early in the process because all of the area schools already held commitments, but he has a good skill set. The first thing that you notice about Mansell's tape is that he throws well while moving outside of the pocket or around in the pocket. He is not the swiftest quarterback, but he runs well enough to keep defenses honest and is smart when he does choose to run with it. He has a good arm and shows good pop and accuracy on intermediate throws. He has good field vision and seems confident in and out of the pocket.

RECRUITMENT: As mentioned above, Mansell was only lightly recruited because so many of the local programs had filled up at the position early on. He did however garner interest from North Carolina, Southern Miss, and Illinois. His only other offer came from North Dakota State. Iowa was his second offer and he soon gave the Hawkeyes his verbal pledge soon after his unofficial there over the summer and after he was evaluated in person by then quarterbacks coach Greg Davis.

OUTLOOK: All expectations are that Mansell will redshirt his first year on campus and sit behind Drew Cook, Tyler Wiegers and Nate Stanley. That will help him immensely to get two years of separation between he and Stanley. It should set up an opportunity for him to contend for playing time or the starting job his junior year.
