Signed: Iowa TE/LB Jacob Coons

Hawkeye Insider takes an in-depth look at each Iowa signee.

COMMIT DATE: December 9, 2015

LEAD RECRUITER: LeVar Woods/Reese Morgan

EVALUATION: Coons only had limited film out there hence the lower ranking, but he shows skills on tape that are intriguing. He can run after the catch and his team liked to throw him screens, something Iowa may do with him. I saw him at a padded camp too and while he wasn't the biggest guy, he competed hard as a blocker. - Midwest Analyst Allen Trieu

RECRUITMENT: This recruitment brought no drama, no suspense, and was wrapped up very, very quickly. Coons has been committed to the Hawkeyes for over a year. He was offered before his junior season and then made his commitment to Iowa once the season had ended. Iowa State also offered but he was always going to be a Hawkeye.

OUTLOOK: Coons is one with some positional flexibility and it'll be interesting what approach Iowa decides to take with him at the beginning of his career. He's likely a tight end or a linebacker given his body type and style of play, but both are positions of depth right now for Iowa. He falls into the category where he is a talent that they wanted, and they'll bring him in and figure it out later. A redshirt year is anticipated in the meantime.
