POSITION: DEFENSIVE END
STAR RANK: THREE-STAR
POSITION RANK: 60
COMMIT DATE: April 24, 2016
LEAD RECRUITER: Reese Morgan
EVALUATION: He's one of my favorite kids in the class. He just looks like he's playing at a different speed out there than everyone else on his tape. You have to like his wrestling background as well. I think he will be an impact guy. - Midwest Analyst Allen Trieu
RECRUITMENT: Duwa was leaning towards committing to Minnesota before being offered by Iowa in the Spring. He held an offer from the Gophers' staff for a few months and was inching closer towards giving them his verbal pledge but he held out because of the interest that the Hawkeyes were showing. Duwa wanted to play his college football in Iowa City. That offer finally did come after the Iowa Spring Game he visited and quickly delivered his verbal commitment to the Iowa staff.
OUTLOOK: He's going to play on the defensive line at Iowa. The question is whether it will be as a defensive end or if they will decide to bulk him up and see if he can play inside as a defensive tackle. The Hawkeye staff has mentioned both scenarios to him thus far. His most recent foot injury assures that he will redshirt his first year on campus. He will see the field and definitely be a contributor for Iowa. They may turn him into a project as a defensive tackle as that is the clearest path to the field for him and where the Hawkeyes need the most help. That's a lot of weight and strength for him to tack on but he'll have the time to do so and Iowa is no stranger into turning bodies like his into interior linemen.
