Daviyon Nixon (Allen Trieu / Scout)

Signed: Iowa DT Daviyon Nixon

Hawkeye Insider takes an in-depth look at each Iowa signee.

COMMIT DATE: February 1, 2017

EVALUATION: Nixon has length and size. He has the athleticism and speed to run down ball carriers. He is raw technically and must play with more consistent motor and pad level. He has gotten bigger and grown into a true inside guy. Nixon has excellent upside, and just needs polishing. - Midwest Analyst Allen Trieu

RECRUITMENT: Nixon would have been a sure-fire multiple 'power five' offer guy had everything been in order in the classroom but he has rectified the situation pretty well and several power five programs came calling late, including Iowa. Despite his commitment to Northern Illinois, the Hawkeyes made a push, offered, and hosted him on an official visit. He made no announcement for his commitment and just quietly sent in his national letter of intent to Iowa.

OUTLOOK: Because there's still a plan in place for him to keep everything in order in the classroom, he'll probably redshirt his first year on campus just to acclimate himself with everything in that area. He's good enough to play right away and could be used, especially since defensive tackle is a position of need. However, it is probably best he redshirts his first year at Iowa and I believe that is the route the Hawkeye staff will take for him as well. If all goes well, he could impact on the field in year two with Iowa.
