Iowa Football: Garrison Vaughn Still Hearing From Iowa, Hoping For an Offer Soon

2018 Belton (TX.) DB Garrison Vaughn is still hearing from the Hawkeyes, among other schools.

Garrison Vaughn has yet to receive an offer from the Iowa Hawkeyes.

But if that offer were to come, Iowa would hold an advantage over a long list of other schools recruiting the Belton safety. That advantage being incoming freshman QB, Peyton Mansell.

Mansell and Vaughn played at Belton together this past season and the two have a pretty close bond.

"I love my QB," Vaughn said. "So, I would say it definitely would give them (Iowa) an early advantage." he admitted.

However, that isn't the only thing that would draw Vaughn to Iowa City.

"I love Iowa City," he exclaimed. "The facilities are great and they have a stellar defense," said Vaughn.

Right now he has six offers, but none from power five programs. Columbia, Dartmouth, Louisiana Lafayette, Louisiana Monroe, Tulsa, and Stephen F Austin are the schools that are in on the action for Vaughn, but he hears quite a bit from some respected power five programs.

"I'm hearing from quite a few schools," he said excitedly. "SMU, Baylor, and Arizona are just a few, along with Indiana and Iowa," he acknowledged.

He hears a lot from the Hawkeyes through letters, direct messages, and of course - Peyton Mansell - who'll step on campus this summer.

Even though the Hawkeyes have yet to offer, he thinks that one could be on the horizon.

"(Iowa) said they'd be down in the spring, along with some other power 5 schools," he said. "And if I can just show them what I got, I should get that offer I am looking for," he exclaimed.

As far as what that offer would mean for Vaughn, well, I'd say it'd mean a great deal.

"(The offer) would mean a lot! First off they have a great history, so it would be an honor! Also, I know they have things going in the right direction, so I'd love to be apart of that," Vaughn admitted.

While the Hawkeyes will go see him this spring, he doesn't think he'll make it back to Iowa City until football season. He visited with Mansell and Beau Corrales this past fall for an Iowa home game and enjoyed every minute of it.

As a junior, Vaughn was selected as a 6A 1st Team All-State Safety. He racked up 124 tackles and 5 interceptions over the course of the season.
