Iowa Leads for a Top Receiver Target in Tyrone Tracy

Tyrone Tracy shares how Iowa catapulted to the lead for his services after concerns about the passing offense.

One of the top athletes in general in the midwest is Indianapolis (Ind.) Decatur Central''s Tyrone Tracy. Tracy projects to a couple different positions at the next level, namely running back and wideout. Iowa is recruiting him as a receiver and offered him quite a while ago.

In addition to the Hawkeyes, Tracy has been offered by Cincinnati, Illinois, Boston College, Louisville, and Northwestern among others.

Tracy took a recent trip to Iowa City and it was quite a success for the Hawkeyes.

"It was amazing," he said to Scout. "I loved it. It was a nice visit. They treated us right. Friday was the academic part and we were able to get around campus and see a lot of the little things. Saturday was mostly about football. We toured the facility and saw how the weight room program goes."

"We also watched practice," Tracy added. "Time goes faster when you're having fun and that's what happened. It was electric. It was crazy. I want to be a part of it some day."

Though he'd love to be a part of it some day, Tracy has held off on a commitment so far. But it's impressive how much ground Iowa has made up. Earlier in his recruitment he had reservations about the Hawkeyes because the passing offense wasn't impressive which concerned him. He was also weary of how he fit into their style of play. Those issues have waned and have been erased.

"Iowa is my number one school," he admitted. "They are the school to beat right now. Coach (Kelton) Copeland made it all better. He came in a couple weeks ago. He's a great coach. He's calm. He's everything I want in a coach. With him there, Iowa has a much, much better chance of me going there."

Rounding out Tracy's top four is Louisville, Illinois and Cincinnati. He has more visits coming up and a general time period in which he hopes to make his college decision.

"We're going to visit Louisville for the spring game on April 15," he noted. "On April 14, we're visiting Kentucky for their spring game. My dad and I will be going to Iowa so he can see them. We just haven't made a decision on when but we will be back up there again soon."

"We're taking everything slow still," Tracy continued. "We're trying to get the right data and the right research. I want to commit before the football season so that would be the timetable."
