Jeff Jenkins gave the Iowa Football program his verbal commitment back in late January. This past weekend was the first time he's been able to actually take in a Hawkeye football practice and he left Iowa City very impressed.
"I love coach Polasek, his intensity and just being all about the player-coach relationship. I can't wait to start working with him," Jenkins told Scout.com.
"I like coaches that get in your face and tell you when you mess up and they definitely do," he admitted.
Jenkins was the second verbal commit of Iowa's 2018 class behind Wisconsin LB Mike Bruner and says nothing has changed in the four months since his commitment to the Hawkeyes.
"I'm still 100% Iowa!" Jenkins admitted. "I just really enjoy visiting Iowa and I'm excited to get back next week [for the spring game]," he noted.
Since his recruitment has been wrapped up for quite some time now, I was interested in what he's been doing since and most of his time has been dedicated to recruiting his HS teammate, Samson Evans, to join him in Iowa City.
"I'm just trying to get Samson on board," Jenkins said. "And I think I'm doing pretty well."
Evans is listed as an athlete right now and the Hawkeyes like him as either a receiver or a running back at this point in time. He plays QB for his Prairie Ridge HS team and there have been some rumblings that he might want to pursue that at the next level. He'd likely head to Northern Illinois if that were the case.
However, Jenkins believes he's open to playing anywhere.
"He is open to playing anywhere on offense,"Jenkins said. "And wherever that is, he is going to be a beast," Jenkins said of his athletic teammate.
Jeff will be back to Iowa City on Friday for the Iowa spring game as I mentioned earlier and Evans might be with him. Evans has a track meet and it'll depend on if they can squeeze it in.
