The offer tear continues for Fran McCaffery and his staff following the first weekend of the live period. Richmond (VA) forward Armando Bacot is the latest to be offered by the Hawkeyes.
"It was a very different and unique offer I've ever received," Bacot told Scout. When asked to elaborate a little bit, he cited that the fact that the offer came from Iowa - a state in the midwest - made it unique because up until now he'd mostly been receiving heavy interest from east coast schools. But that's all going to change here soon.
He's already been offered by Penn State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, and others. The offer sheet is pretty impressive for a class of 2019 kid. He's also made visits to both Virginia Tech and Penn State already.
He said that head coach Fran McCaffery was the one to reach out to him and he came away impressed.
"He really stood out to me and I thought he was a very good man, as well as a coach," Bacot admitted. McCaffery - like Bacot - also came away impressed.
"He (McCaffery) was really impressed with me, he liked my composure, my confidence, skill set, and he talked about letting me do my thing if I came to Iowa," Bacot said. "We also talked about his son Patrick, who I'm good friends with," he added.
Bacot and Patrick met at a camp a while back and Armando says the two have just been cool ever since.
Armando currently reps Team Loaded VA on the adidas Gauntlet circuit. He said he played well last weekend in Dallas averaging over 14 points and 9 rebounds per contest. Loaded VA is back in action this weekend in Atlanta, they take on Texas Pro on Saturday morning.
Bacot admitted that he doesn't really have any favorites at this point, but is intrigued by the Hawkeyes. He's a player that has been blowing up lately and should continue to do so as he makes his way through the AAU circuit.
