Hawks Gain Commitment #4

Yesterday, Ryan Majerus put joy into the Jacobsen Building with a verbal commitment given to Coach Ferentz and staff. This is the fourth verbal commitment that the Hawks have received so far this year, and the second from Oelwein, IA.

Ryan Majerus (6'4 210) had worked hard all summer long to gain his first offer on the D1 level. This first offer came after the Hawkeye victory over Penn State. Within two weeks, Ryan decided to end his recruitment by giving Coach Ferentz his verbal commitment.

"I went down for an academic visit and Coach (Eric) Johnson showed me around," stated Ryan. "I first went to the law building and met Professor Dean Heinz. I then took a tour of his class and a tour of a class held in political science. After that we returned to the Jacobsen Building, and that is where I decided to give Coach Ferentz my verbal commitment."

"Iowa was my only offer, but I had a good feeling that offers were going to be coming shortly from Northwestern and Iowa State. I planned on visiting Northwestern this coming weekend."

"The main reason for my commitment to Iowa was because how comfortable I felt with the coaches. They don't just treat you like business, but make you feel like your coming in as part of the family because it's such a close-knit group. They have a great academic program and some of the best facilities in the nation."

Ryan is projected to play LB at Iowa. He, like many previous in-state players, could end up playing a variety of positions, like DE. Ryan is exactly the type of kid that Iowa has always had success with, a hard-working in-state player that after a significant weight gain really becomes a player. It should be very interesting to see how Ryan pans out after a few years with Coach Doyle!!!
