How did it feel to get out there?
I feel rusty coming off of my injury, but I played well after a while. I was a little nervous. During the second half, I calmed down a little.
What do you feel like you did better in the second half when you kind of calmed down?
I was a little too tense when I first got out there. As soon as I got out on the floor, I started thinking. The second half, I just really relaxed. I play with college players every day, so why am I tense?
Did anybody talk to you at halftime?
The other players saw that I was off my game. It was just like "relax, you'll be OK." Really, it was Glen.
How well do you feel you played defense?
In the first half, I had a lot of bad defensive sequences. In the second half, my defense really came. I was able to defend a couple of people on the other team and make a couple of deflections, things like that.
How is your injury?
I'm about 90 percent. I can feel it a little bit when I run. But it's not hurting me enough where I can't run or wouldn't be able to play or need a brace or anything like that.
Was Crispin a good test for that injury?
Oh yeah. That was the best player that I've played against one-on-one ever in basketball. I learned a lot from just watching him play and playing against him.
How do you feel like you're playing on defense?
Defensively is definitely where I need work. Today, I showed a few signs that I was comfortable on the defensive end. I'm an offensive player and I need to work on my defense a lot more. We've been doing that in practice really hard. The whole team in general, we haven't been guarding as good as we want to.
Did you play a little at four today?
Yeah. With Glen going down, he gets a lot of time. So, other guys have to step up, like me. I'll see what I can do playing four and three.
Can this be a good defensive team?
Definitely. We're young. Most of our leadership comes from older guys, and they play the post. It starts with the guards guarding out on the perimeter. We've just got to shut people down. We showed that a little bit tonight.
Did coach get into you guys a little bit at halftime concerning the defense?
Yeah, because we haven't been guarding. Crispin played like 10 minutes in the first half and he had 19 points. That's not going to get it done when the Big Ten comes around. He said to box out and to not give up driving lines. That's what we've been working on for three days now. We did a good job in the second half defensive wise.
How do you feel the team played today?
This team was a little bit better than the last one that we played. We came out and told ourselves that we were going to play better defense. Sixty four points is a goal for this team, and we were right at that. We did a pretty good job.
Crispin is still a pretty good player still, isn't he?
To tell you the truth, he's a lot quicker than I thought he was. You watch him on TV, and he looks quick, but not as quick as he is out there. He's a heck of a player. I'm glad that I got a chance to play against a guy like him.
Are you guys ready to go with the regular season?
Yeah. I can't wait. These games do mean something, but now we start for real. Guys are ready to get going.
What did you do this summer to fix your shot?
I really didn't do anything. It was just a matter of getting healthy and getting comfortable. The first year is pretty tough. I don't think people realize how tough it is. This year I'm a lot more comfortable and know when to shoot the ball.
What does Mike Henderson bring to the ballclub?
He's a great defender. He's probably one of the best defenders on our team. He can penetrate and get kicks to our shooters. He got to the free throw line a lot today, which is a good sign, too.
