DT L.C. Kirkpatrick (6'3 260) is one of the top defensive prospects in Texas, and comes from one of the area's top programs, Aldine High School. Perhaps the most important position for the Hawkeyes to recruit this season is the defensive line, and L.C. Kirkpatrick is one of the top priorities.
"When making my decision, I want to find a school where I know I'll be coached well to bring me to my fullest ability," commented L.C. "I want to be a part of a good program, which I know Iowa has, and I want a place where I can get good academics in case I can't rely on football for my future."
With other offers from Southern California, Baylor, SMU, and Tulsa, the Hawks will have plenty of competition to gain L.C.'s services. L.C., also, informed me that Texas A&M has told him that they are close to offering him a scholarship.
"Iowa is a good team in the BigTen and they have great coaches. I looked through their media guide and found many interesting things about the university and I like the fact that they're on televison quite often."
L.C. is one of the many premier prospects in Texas that Ron Aiken recruits. Many people haven't really noticed the job Coach Aiken has done at Iowa so far, but he is easily one of the best recruiters on the staff.
"Coach Aiken is a nice dude," stated L.C. "I can tell by the way he holds himself that he really wants me in the program."
L.C. is slated to visit Iowa on December 7th, but he hasn't set-up any other visits at this time. With the departure of our two starting DT's after this season, there are questions of depth on this squad and the possibility for early playing time for a freshman. It will be interesting to see if Iowa is able to land another great performer from the Houston area.
