Quency Darley: Enjoys Iowa, Narrows Finalists

The Iowa Hawkeyes hosted a handful of potential football prospects this weekend, one of them being Juco DT Quency Darley of Kilgore Junior College. Former Hawkeye Derrick Pickens came to Iowa from Kilgore a few years back and Darley is getting very close to making his college decision; he is down to two schools and his announcement should come some time this week. Read what Darley had to say about his Iowa experience in this interview.

As is typically the case when recruiting prospects visit Iowa for the first time, they come in to an Iowa visit thinking the school will be out in the middle of a cornfield.

Defensive tackle Quency Darley felt the same way.

"It was a lot different from what I thought it was going to be before I came." Darley said. "I didn't think there was going to be much around, but it was actually a city and that shocked me."

Darley, a 6-foot-2, 265-pound tackle from Kilgore Junior College in Texas is a native of Manning, South Carolina.

Fellow South Carolina native Eric McCollom hosted Darley on his visit, and the two actually played against one another in high school.

"It was a great visit and it was great to see another South Carolina guy at Iowa." Darley said.

Darley had visited Arizona State and recently picked up an offer from Oklahoma State.

Aside from Iowa's football facilities, there were a few other key aspects of his visit that made an impression on him.

"Iowa's academics really stood out to me, and just them finishing the last two years ranked #8 in the nation also stood out to me." Darley said.

"Also the fact that they stopped recruiting any other Junior College defensive linemen and focused on me; it made me feel wanted."

Darley had considered the possibility of taking another visit next week, as Maryland and Clemson had offered him a scholarship in addition to the three schools previously mentioned, but he has had a change of heart.

"I am probably going to cancel the rest of my visits and leave it to Arizona State and Iowa." Darley said. "It will come down to how comfortable I am with each school, and I do mean the school."

Darley intends to major in business at the school he selects, and told us that he plans to make his decision some time this week.
