Damian Sims had recently committed to Virginia Tech, but he still made the visit to Iowa City this weekend.
Josh Clark spoke with Sims last night in this recap of his visit, and Sims felt that he would still take his official visit to VT this coming weekend to have the Iowa visit to compare it to.
Less than 24 hours after that conversation, Sims has already had a change of heart.
"I am not going to take that visit. I am going to stick with Iowa." Sims told Hawkeyenation.com this afternoon. "Iowa has not offered me a scholarship officially. But I have been assured that I will get it."
Sims feels that he can be the "next Freddy Russell" at Iowa and was quick to point out that "I am bigger than Fred."
Iowa recently got into the mix with Sims in earnest.
"They just started recruiting me two weeks ago. I will sign with them on signing day."
In the end, it was the people of Iowa that tipped the scales in Iowa's favor.
"It was just how the people made me feel up there. They were great, and it felt like a family from the players and coaches down to the fans."
Sims had offers from Virginia Tech, Wisconsin and Kansas State as well.
Sims had this to say last night regarding his visit to Iowa:
"I loved it up there. It was just crazy, but they really got it going on there. I could tell the coaches were prepared to make me feel comfortable and show me a good time. My host, Abdul Hodge, was the coolest guy I've ever met. I also really liked David Walker. The people there are just so nice, and they really get into their football. Right now, I'm loving Iowa."
