Reggie Evans had the first of many double doubles this year on Tuesday night in leading the Hawks to an easy 89-59 victory. His 30 points and 15 boards led both teams in each category. Reggie was 10-14 from the field and a surprising 10-13 from the foul stripe. Evans led the nation in double-doubles last season. This game should serve notice that he intends on doing it again this year.
Steve Alford said of Evans "I thought he was terrific." Certainly no one in the crowd of over 15,000 would disagree with that assessment.
Luke Recker, the other member of Iowa's All-American duo, added 18 points along with four steals and five assists. Although freshman point guard Pierre Pierce struggled with early foul trouble, Chauncey Leslie added eight points while commiting just one turnover.
Center Jared Reiner showed much promise with a career high nine rebounds in just eighteen minutes.
