The Hawks, a 24-point favorite with the Las Vegas boys, got off to a slow start on Wednesday night in the second round of the Guardians Classic Tournament. Those that laid the number looked foolish as Iowa struggled with these upstarts from Boston University. However, the second half proved fruitful as the Hawks called on their "speedbuster."
Chauncey Leslie once again sparked the Hawks to victory after coming off the bench. Possessing feet so fleet, he causes problems on both ends of the court. Not to mention that his hands are so fast that you would never want to play poker with him. Chauncey used his quickness to get three steals, four assists and fifteen points. His shooting has been a pleasant surprise this year. This night was no different as he was seven out of nine from the floor.
Reggie Evans scored 16 points but missed a deuce-deuce with 8 boards. Luke Recker added 18 points, while Glen Worley added 11.
Now it's off to Kansas City where the competition gets a lot better. Iowa will face #12 Memphis on Tuesday night, while #8 Missouri squares off against #24 Alabama in the other semifinal game.
I'm ready for some Gates BBQ and "I'm gonna get me some."
