Humphries Has Good Visit

This past weekend the Hawkeyes entertained one of the top juniors in the land in PF Kris Humphries. This Minnesota native had to witness his home state Gophers take a beating, but still left with a big smile on his face.

The current trend in college basketball is that bigger is essentially meaning better. With the NBA using a lot bigger SG's and SF's, colleges are also using this approach on the recruiting trail. Coach Alford and his staff have found themselves targeting one of the top juniors in the land, that being Minnekota, MN native and 6'8 220 SF Kris Humphries. Kris and his family drove down this past weekend to take an unofficial visit of Iowa City.

"The visit went really good," explained Kris. "We started out Saturday morning by speaking to the coaching staff and taking a tour of the facilites. I then watched their shoot around, and had a two hour conversation with Coach Alford."

What did Coach Alford have to say to him?

"He basically told me how he thinks I can fit into their program and what the team has returning for the next couple years. We discussed some different philosphies and what it takes to make it to the next level."

"I really like his book "Guard Play" as I read it when I was younger. He listed good work habits that have postively affected me and I've incorporated some of those into my game."

Kris, be regarded as one of the top25 prospects in the 2002 class, has a slur of schools targeting him. He has already taken visits to Minnesota, Michigan State, Michigan, and Texas. He, also, has a Janurary 19th visit set-up to Arizona for their game against UCLA and has schools like UNC and Georgetown pursuing him, among others.

"I'm a huge fan of Coach Alford as I have always been one. Iowa has good facilites and there will be an opporunity for me to earn playing time at small forward. I've been working on all aspects of my game this past summer and I'm suited to playing the small forward position."

Kris has been a regular in the Pro-AM Summer League in Minneapolis, and according to his father, would like that opporunity while in college. Being four hours away from home in Iowa City, that opporunity and others would certainly present themself to Kris.
