The Hawks have, undoubtedly, made Florida one of their key recruiting states since the arrival of Coach Ferentz and staff. Every year it appears that more highly ranked Florida prospects have Iowa on their short list, and that is no different this year with DB Fabian Washington, among others. Fabian visited Iowa City this past weekend to take in action of Iowa's blowout victory over the Minnesota Gophers.
"The visit went great," commented Fabian. "The game was electric and was good to see them winning again. The same could be said about the basketball game as the teams receive real good athletic support. The only negative about Iowa will be the weather."
The same could be said about his favorite, Nebraska, though.
"Nebraska and Iowa both were very similar visits, except the women are better in Iowa City."
So what advantage does Nebraska have over Iowa???
"Nebraska has a more winning tradition than Iowa. Iowa is starting to win football games again, but its risky because you never know when they are going to slip again. I just want to make sure that I'm playing on a winning football program."
So does Iowa have any shot of making a comeback on Nebraska???
"I have a visit left to UNC on December 1st so anything is possible. Iowa can certainly move up my list as I'm going to sit down with my mother and coach. My mother only accompanied me on my visit to Nebraska so Iowa will have some work to do on her."
"Benny Sapp was my host, and he was great as he seemed to know everybody. Coach Parker has been my recruiter and he definitely shows the most emotion. He yells when it is needed, and that is no different than what I go through down here in Florida."
"Coach Ferentz was a very down-to-earth guy; the whole staff and players were that way. Coach Ferentz definitely has a nice house as we went out there for supper on Saturday night."
One thing is for sure, Coach Ferentz is one of the best when it comes to dealing with parents. While Iowa has its work cut out for them, no one should count them out of this sweepstakes quite yet. Fabian would definitely be one of the top defensive prospects that this staff has brought in if they were to gain a commitment.
