RB Lee Renfro Up to Five Offers, Will Camp at Iowa

There is an old football adage that is quite simple, but quite true: you can never have too many good running backs. Typically you will find a running back is among the best athletes on any high school football team, and if they don't work out at that position, you can move them around without wasting a scholarship. Lee Renfro of Kentucky has all of the measurables that you would want, and he might be a few weeks from breaking out with several scholarship offers.

Somerset, Kentucky running back prospect Lee Renfro already has five offers on the table. The 6-1, 200 pound prospect with 4.49 speed is also hearing from a host of other schools.

Lee Renfro has drawn the attention of coaches around the nation, and after seeing his stats, it's easy to understand why. As a junior, Renfro rushed for 1,675 yards with 21 touchdowns. He also recorded 125 tackles, 41 assists, and 3 interceptions on the defensive side of the ball.

Schools are recruiting Renfro as both a running back and strong safety. Does he have a preference on which side of the ball he plays on? "No, I really don't have a preference," said Renfro.

The Southwestern Pulaski County star already has received offers from Ball State, Eastern Kentucky, UT-Martin, Eastern Illinois, and Southern Illinois, and continues to draw interest from some of the top schools in the nation.

"Cincinnati and Vanderbilt are close to offering me," said Renfro. "I'm also being contacted by Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa, Northwestern, Kentucky, and Louisville."

Besides the mail and phone calls, Renfro has had numerous visitors to his high school. "Louisville, Kentucky, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Cincinnati, Eastern Kentucky, and Western Kentucky have all visited my school."

During his spring break, Renfro went on a tour of the country to check out different schools. "I visited South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma, Iowa, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Ball State," said Renfro.

After that extensive road trip this past spring, it looks like he'll have a busy summer, as well. "I plan on attending summer camps at South Carolina, Northwestern, Miami (Ohio), Iowa, and Oklahoma. There might be a few more, but those are the ones that I know for sure of."

When does Renfro plan on making a decision? "I'm not in that big of hurry right now. Then again, it all depends on who offers and when."

What are his important factors in choosing a school? "Academics are the most important. I plan on going to medical school, so that will be real important. The coaching staff will also be important."

Would distance be problem? "No, that won't be a problem at all," said Renfro.

We asked what schools interest Renfro the most. "Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Cincinnati, and Iowa are the schools that I have the most interest in right now."

Do his parents have a preference on where he'll go to school? "No, not really. They'll follow my career wherever I go."

Renfro has a self reported 3.8 GPA and scored a 23 on the ACT.

The HawkeyeNation Perspective: Renfro has the perfect blend of size and speed, if his self reported measurables are to be believed. Having already taken an unofficial visit to Iowa, and planning on coming back for Iowa's camp in June, he should at least have a good idea of what he could expect to see in Iowa City. Then, it will be for the Iowa coaches to decide if they want to offer him a scholarship or not...Renfro is in a similar position with several other preps Iowa is watching...Iowa will be handing out a lot of offers after their June camp, and Renfro is in the hunt.
