It's hard to believe that a sideline-to-sideline type linebacker could garner almost ten offers and still be an unknown to even the savviest recruitnik. Within the last few months, Mays Landing (N.J.) Oakrest LB Dakota Walker has received a FedEx from Connecticut, Indiana, Iowa, Kent State, N.C. State, North Carolina, Purdue, Syracuse, and Rutgers all containing official written scholarship offers.
Playing for a winning program is essential for Walker, who also will look into each schools' academic background. However, at this point, Walker hasn't eliminated any school, and won't begin to do so until this summer.
"I'm going to wait for more offers to come in, and then I'm going to start making some decisions," stated Walker. "When school is over I should have all the offers I'm going to get and then during the summer I'm going to start eliminating some of them. I don't want a lot of coaches to call me during the school year, because right now it's getting kind of frustrating."
Walker has field phone calls from coaching staffs representing the aforementioned schools as well as many others along the east coast. Most conversations aim to convince the 6-foot-3, 220-pounder to visit their campus.
"Every other day somebody has called," remarked Walker. "It seems like every single school has called me. They all are asking me if I'm going to come down to their camps and stuff."
The plan right now for Walker is to attend as many summer camps as possible with Virginia Tech and Syracuse the only definite stops. Unofficially the former Defensive Player of the Year has visited Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple, and Boston College.
