Pipho Favors Hawkeyes

Though Kirk Ferentz and the Iowa Hawkeyes have yet to offer in state offensive lineman Matt Pipho, and though he has offers from Stanford and Iowa State, the young man from LaPorte City-Union ranks the Hawkeyes atop his list of favorites...

OL/T Matt Pipho (6-7, 260, 5.1) of LaPorte City Union (IA) has a lot of family ties to the University of Iowa. Both his parents are grads as is his sister, and his brother attends their dental school. But the Hawkeyes haven't offered Matt yet.

"I grew up liking Iowa because everyone here is a big Hawkeye fan," said Pipho. "They have really good coaches and I like how well they develop their players."

Matt favors Iowa slightly over Stanford (offer), Miami, Nebraska and Iowa St (offer). "I'll be visiting Stanford next week and Nebraska after that. I love the academics at Stanford and they were my first offer in May.

"I just got back from Miami on Tuesday. It was nice. I loved the weather and the facilities were amazing.

"Academics, player development and whether the team will be good in a few years are the most important things for me."

Matt benches 340, squats 410 and has a vertical jump of 31. "I'm stronger and quicker than everybody else. I'm pretty good at pass blocking because I have a big frame and a long wing span."
