Hawks Targeting Southern QB

You can add another name to the target list of QB's for the Hawkeye coaching staff. Once again, they have been looking wide and far, doing film evlauations and have once again possibly found a sleeper. That is what has now put the Hawks in good position to land this southern QB.

Cy Phillips (6'5 230 4.8) is not a QB many have heard of. He isn't even that well known in the south, coming from a small Arkansas school in Hoxie, AR. However, Cy is a talent that people will need to start keeping an eye out for as more and more schools are starting to show interest.

"Right now he has offers from Tulsa, Memphis, and Arkansas State," Cy's Head Coach Tom Sears said. "Mississippi State, Baylor, and Iowa are some of the schools that are showing strong interest in Cy. Iowa has told me they really like him, and that he'll likely be visiting within the next two weeks."

"Honestly, we haven't had that great of a program here in the past, as its only my third year here coaching. Not many schools are aware of Hoxie so Cy wasn't able to get his name out as well. Cy is a great QB, and is very mobile for his size. He has passed and rushed for over 1000 yards this season. His forty time should not mean much to people becuase we ran a lot of option, and he is very explosive finding the hole and is so big and strong that its hard for defenders to take him down."

"Cy is a great student, earning a 3.5 GPA. He is a great leader and an outstanding person on and off the field. He is a kid that I would be pleasured to call my own."

Cy was in attendance for the Mississipi State/BYU game yesterday, and it had to be quite the game to watch.

"It was a really good game," Cy said. "I've been to a few of their games and their camp, and Starksville is good place. However, I don't have much to compare it to."

"Concerning Iowa, everything seems awesome from what I've heard. They stopped by my school and told me that they'd be calling this week to set-up my official visit. They wanted to see what would happen with Penn State before setting it up because they have to set their bowl practices."

Iowa plans on signing one JUCO QB and one high school QB. It seems that Iowa has gotten its targets cut down, as Orlando Evans and Nathan Chandler are the leading JUCO candidates, and Chris Olsen, Jason Manson, and Cy Phillips are the leading high school candidates. There is a possibility that Iowa could sign three QB's if they receive more interest than first perceived, and Cy Phillips could be a guy we hear about on SigningDay 03'.
