King will begin his Iowa career working out at linebacker. Here are some of his thoughts from Iowa Media Day:

Did you watch Iowa games a lot growing up, being from Burlington?

Well, a little bit. I have never really watched college football until this last year. But, the town is just an hour and five minutes away, so I have been to a couple of games.

Is Burlington a Hawkeye town?

Oh yeah. I mean our newspaper is named the "Hawk Eye" for pete's sake. So, yes, it is pretty much a Hawkeye town.

What have been doing over the summer to prepare for this fall?

I have been working out with the team since June 7th. We have been running and lifting. I also went to the Iowa Shrine Bowl for two weeks. That was the only time I was away from campus all summer.

How was the Iowa Shrine Bowl experience?

It was fun, we lost, but it was a lot of fun.

What did you learn from a non-football standpoint during the Shrine Bowl week(s)?

There are a lot more people out there that need help than you would think. I went to hospital and learned it was not just the game that week, it was for the kids. I really understood that once I was at the hospital. It was a touching feeling.

Where do you feel you might be playing?

As of right now I am playing linebacker or at the Mike backer position. I will be staying there I think.

When I say Coach Doyle and the training program, what do you think of?

Coming here, they watch and test everything. They calculate everything. This is not just a step up from high school, it is about 10 steps up from where high school players come in at. I am working with the team and it helps. Every kid has a good work ethic, but you keep each other on task so you can grow stronger and bigger. It really helps. It really helps you on the field.

What are you looking forward this season?

Playing does not really matter right now. I am just planning to learn from the two best linebackers in the nation. I will be able to learn a lot from Hodge and Greenway, and as long as I stay here (at Iowa) I will keep learning. That will help out a lot.

Seeing guys like Greenway come to Iowa and succeed after being from a small state and an 8-man football program has got to encourage you.

Yes, it says a lot for the team we play for and the program we are in.

Do you have any bold predictions for this team?

No, but we have a lot of work to do. We have great athletes but we have had only two days of camp. We have some pretty high hopes, but still have to work hard. The coaches just said in the meeting today that nobody in the nation has made a tackle, thrown a pass, ran with the ball, or anything. We are all undefeated right now.
