Rob Report: Kent State Senior Writer Rob Howe returns with his views from the press box in this weekly postgame feature. The newest installment includes an injury update, a list of true freshmen that dressed, a rundown of what the special teams units looked like, the guys that showed up as second-teamers and more observations and news that you might have missed from TV or the stands.

Marcus Schnoor - All postgame signs pointed to the former walk-on having suffered a torn ACL. Iowa not only loses a quality leader, but a solid backup RB and strong special teams performer.

Drew Tate - Hit with a severe case of dehydration. Took three IV bags and other medical attention to get the situation under control. QB said that he and strength coach Chris Doyle this week to find a cure for the problem. Expect Drew back under center next week for ISU.

Mike Follett - Also left the field because of dehydration. Should be back next week.

Mike Jones - The starting right tackle seemed to hurt his leg early in the game as I watched him hobble up from a pile. He continued to play with the injury throughout the rest of the game. He might have reagrivated the injury that was bothering him in camp. It will take a lot to keep him out of the lineup.

Warren Holloway - Came off of the field late in the game holding his hamstring. He asked to be removed from the game.

There were other bumps and bruises on Saturday, but overall, with the expection of Schnoor, the Hawks came out of it pretty well.

TRUE FRESHMEN SIGHTINGS: There were a lot of strange numbers standing on the Iowa sideline Saturday, but we managed to get a roundup of a good portion of the newscomers that dresssed - Lucas Cox, Ted Bentler, Matt Kroul, Anton Narinskiy, Bradley Fletcher, Grant McCracken, Charles Godfrey, Harold Dalton, Seth Olsen, Adam Shada, Nyere Aumaitre, Andy Brodell, Michael Sabers and Rashad Dunn.

None of the true freshmen saw game action.

Major Blockage - Several Hawkeyes should be recognized for excellent blocks throughout the game.

Aaron Mickens floored an overwhelmed Kent State player on Ed Hinkel's long gain in the first quarter. He also threw the lead block behind Pete McMahon on Albert Young's TD run.

Sean Considine threw a crushing block on Chad Greenway's first interception return.

Mike Elgin and Warren Holloway delivered nice blocks on the jailbreak screen in which Matt Melloy scored his first TD.

Feeling special: Here's a look at some of Saturday's special team units -

Kick return: Champ Davis, Mattison, Ejiasi, Miles, Klinkenborg, Melloy, Becker, Schnoor, Merrick, Hinkel and Young.

Kick coverage: Brevi, Becker, Humpal, Belleus, Mattison, Ch. Davis, Miles, Merrick, Ejiasi, Klinkenborg, Browning and George Lewis.

Belleus returned a punt late in the game.

Communication - After missing a couple of passes early in the game, Qb Drew Tate ran up to intended receivers, Melloy and TE Tony Jackson, and talked with them and used hand motions. Shortly after that, everybody was on the same page for the most part.

Good soldier - Suspended RB Jermelle Lewis dressed and stood on the sideline Saturday. He encouraged backups Albert Young and Sam Brownlee.

Lewis is expected to return next week against ISU.

Staying positive - Iowa Head Coach Kirk Ferentz sought out Tate after the first-year starter threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown. Ferentz clapped and appeared to tell Tate to shake it off.

Split - Young was set up in the slot on a couple of occasions. He ran a reverse out of the formation that was unsuccessful.

Scolding - RB coach Carl Jackson ran onto the field to yell at Tom Busch after the FB was called for clipping on a nice run by QB Eric McCollom.

Second-teamers - These are the guys that came in when most of the starters left:

Offensive line - LT Barkema, LG Plagman, C Cronin, RG Felder, RT Gates.

Defense - LE Iwebema, DT Eshareturi, DT Willcox, RE Mattison, LB Humpal, LB Miles, LB Klinkenborg, S Brevi, S Merrick.
