Hawks Talk ASU Post Game: Greenway & Jovon

We were kinda on our heels, something we're not really used to. We thought we were good and we're not. This is definitely a wakeup call for our team." - Chad Greenway. Read more of Greenway's thoughts along with those of Jovon Johnson in this post-game quote book.

Jovon Johnson

As a defense we came out flat. We didn't really execute our defense and play the way we're used to playing, but we gotta look past it. The game is over now. We gotta look forward and get ready to play Michigan next week.

Q: Did you guys see this coming?

We knew they were gonna pass the ball. Not many teams are gonna be able to run against us, so we knew they were going to resort to passing. The way we came out today, we didn't have enthusiasm. We just didn't play our game. I feel bad because we know we're a better football team than what we showed today and we just gotta look past it.

Q: Andrew Walter looked very confident out there

We knew he was a good player. We watched him on film, so we knew what he had. Every throw, he was putting the ball there where it needed to be and his receivers were making big plays. There's nothing more you can ask for. The quarterback played great.

He's a great leader out there. He has great players around him and today he looked like an NFL quarterback to me and last year when he came in, we stopped him early and we took them out of their game early last year, but this year they really played, they stayed focus and they did the things they had to do. They made the plays they had to make.

Q: Was it uncomfortable playing this game with all of the variables? On the road, at night, then the delay, etc?

It kind of did have a factor. Everybody was talking about how the heat was gonna be a factor, but it rained and that wasn't it. I think playing later in the day, later at night did have a factor because we were sitting around waiting to play, but there's no excuses for the way we played today. We just gotta bounce back and be ready to go next week.

We were kinda on our heels, something we're not really used to. We thought we were good and we're not. This is definitely a wakeup call for our team.

Q: Did the delay affect your team?

Not at all. They did the same thing we did. It's all-even in that aspect. They showed up to play. They're a great team.

Q: What did you think about their throwing long into the fourth quarter with the game in hand?

That's playing football. They're in there playing their game and we were still in there playing ours. What can you say? I don't know if we would have done the same thing. I have no idea. I don't play offense, but they're doing their thing and you can't blame them for that. Andrew, he's a great quarterback. They have great receivers, everything, they played very well. Great team.
