Hawkeye Recruiting Roundup

Thursday is a good day to catch up with the latest goings on with regards to Iowa Football recruiting. In this week's Recruiting Roundup, we check on on Wisconsin DE Raymond Henderson for his thoughts on a recent chat with Iowa OL prospect Dan Doering, give you an update on Elijah Hodge, brother of current Hawkeye Abdul Hodge, the latest on Dace Richardson (pictured), including where he will be this weekend and much more...

Raymond Henderson

Raymond Henderson has set his first two official visits with his first coming this weekend.

"I'm taking an official visit to LSU this weekend for their game against Mississippi State," said Henderson. "I also set up a visit with Tennessee on October 23rd when they play Alabama. I'm going to try and take one more visit during my season, and then I'll take the remaining two in December."

Henderson has recorded six sacks in Oak Creek's first four ball games.

Where are his last three official visits likely to go to?

"Well, I have a pool of schools right now that I'm going to choose from. I'd say the three are likely going to go to either Notre Dame, Iowa, Penn State, Miami(FL), Oklahoma, or Ohio State. I'm still in the process of choosing among those schools."

Henderson was also an unofficial visitor to the Notre Dame/Michigan game two weeks back, along with Hawkeye offensive line recruits Dan Doering, Dace Richardson, and David Moosman.

In my last update on Henderson, I informed Hawk fans of an ongoing relationship he had built with Doering after meeting him in Chicago earlier this spring. Raymond also stated that Coach (Lester) Erb had told him to speak to Dan about taking a visit together. Did he have the chance to speak about that with Doering?

"I didn't talk about a visit with him, but he told me Iowa is a school he is strongly considering. He had a lot of good things to say about Iowa, and told me about the quarterback they landed named Christensen or something. That kid sounds like something else."

Elijah Hodge

Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) Dillard standout linebacker Elijah Hodge has 23 tackles in two games so far this season. The four-star linebacker prospect is widely considered one of the best in Florida. Things are starting to heat up for him on the recruiting front.

"I don't have any dates scheduled yet for visits but I promised three schools that I'll visit them," he said. "I'll be going to Iowa, Ohio State, and North Carolina State. Iowa and NC State had offered and Ohio State's coach just came to the school today (Monday)."

The talented linebacker said he's also getting weekly calls from Miami. "I've been talking to Coach Johnson," he said. "We just talk about different things. He just tells me to keep working hard and that they'll be watching me. I gotta do my thing and set up my visits with the ones who have offered me already."

Hodge is a full academic qualifier.

Dace Richardson

Offensive lineman Dace Richardson from Warrenville South High School in Wheaton, Ill. told GoBlueWolverine Magazine Sunday evening that he is heading up to Ann Arbor for a game. He was also in attendence during Michigan's 28-20 loss to Notre Dame and gave his impressions of both teams.

"I talked to Coach (Andy) Moeller on Thursday," Dace Richardson said. "We talked about when I was coming up for an official visit but then I told him I was coming down for the Michigan-Iowa game this Saturday. I'll be going up with a couple friends, Tony (Moeaki) is going up with us too."

Warrenville South is off to a 4-0 start this season. Richardson reports between 25-30 pancake blocks in the first four games.

The 6 foot 6, 300-pound Richardson was in the stands for Michigan's 28-20 loss to Notre Dame on September 11. He said he knew the Irish were going to win. "I thought Notre Dame was much more aggressive then Michigan," he said. "I had a great time but it didn't really change my impression of either school one way or the other. I like them both."

Richardson said that while he hasn't set up any official visits yet, some of the schools he is considering for trips are USC, Iowa, Tennessee, Michigan, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and Notre Dame. "I'm not sure when I'll take all my visits," he said. "I'm going to try and take one or two during the season."

Warrenville South visits Naperville North this Friday.
