What was going through your head when you were playing without a helmet?
I knew that we were going to a penalty out of it, so I just wanted to take a shot in the end zone. If they would have picked it off, we would have got it back. If it would have been a touchdown, it would have been a touchdown. It was a free play.
I saw Clint in the end zone. I just tried to put it up there for him, but it got busted up.\i>
Were you in pain for the rest of that drive?
I didn't even notice. I just wanted to get the ball into the end zone.
Are you not able to get rid of the ball when you're getting sacked?
A lot of times, I'm in box. I'm trying to get out of the box, but it isn't always happening. The times I'm getting sacked, I can't get out of the box.
When the turnovers start to come like that, what does that do to an offense?
It gets everyone mad and we start saying things. With me, when I'm huddling up with all those guys out there, we're positive. Even if we get sacked three plays in a row, we're still going to be positive. We can't start to blame. We can't start to finger pointing. We've just got to stay positive.
What can you do to alleviate the blitzes?
Just, you know, beat it, I guess or try to get the right protection and get the right play. It was hard for the lineman to hear me. Consequently, they might miss some things. They might not. I don't know.
We've just got to beat the blitz, I guess.
Do you anticipate that you're going to see a lot more?
Oh yeah. But, you know, we've got practice. We're just going to watch film and try to see what the defense is going to give us and go from there.
Are the feelings better this week than they were last week?
I think it does as an offensive unit. I don't know about special teams or defense. We never quit and we moved the ball well. On that opening drive, we took it right down the field and scored. We felt better as a unit, and we're just so close. If we just don't have the turnovers, it's going to be a different turnout, I think.
Some credit goes to Michigan's defense, right?
Yeah. They're athletes running all over the field making good plays. But Michigan had nothing to do with my turnovers. That was all me.
How are you feeling down 16-10 after you drive it down on them?
I was just trying to get the ball into the end zone and not do anything dumb with it.
What happened on the fumble where it never got to Jermelle?
I turned back and was trying to get it to Jermelle and I just hit Busch. That's my fault. I've got to wait until Busch gets out of the way. I just didn't do it. I hit Busch. I couldn't get to it. Jermelle couldn't get to it. And they got it.
Did things just kind of get out of control there for about five minutes?
Yeah just those two drives I just don't think we were as focused as we needed to be. After that, we settled down and we started moving the ball.
Is that a stretch you guys are going to look back on?
I don't think we're going to look back on it. I just think that we played well but we didn't play well enough on offense. Not that we played good, we just had a lot more positives than we've had in the past.
We saw you huddling with the coaches when the decision was being made whether to go for it on fourth or kick the field goal. Do you have any input on that?
Were you trying to?
Not right now. Maybe later.
How many different blitz packages do you suppose you've seen this year, pretty much everything?
I think we've seen everything that they have. But that makes us better. We should be prepared for it in the future.
When things are going bad, who steps into the huddle and takes command? Is it you?
It's all of us. We're all trying to be leaders and we're all trying to be positive in the huddle. It's not just me or it's not just Pete or it's not just Ed or Tony. It's all of us. We're all pulling for each other.
