INJURIES: Todd Plagman and Sean Considine are doubtful for the game against Michigan State, and Matt Melloy is questionable. Brian Ferentz and Jason Manson traveled with the team to Ann Arbor last week, and both are listed in the two deeps this week.


Drew Stanton became the third different Spartan to start at quarterback this season. The last time MSU had three different signal-callers start games in the same season was 1996, when Todd Schultz, Bill Burke and Gus Ornstein all started.
-With 134 yards on 12 carries, Drew Stanton became the first Michigan State quarterback to rush for 100 yards in a game since Charlie Baggett had 120 yards rushing vs. Northwestern, Nov. 15, 1975. Stanton's yardage total was the most for a Spartan quarterback since Baggett rushed for 151 yards on 16 carries vs. Indiana, Nov. 16, 1974.
-Iowa has not lost three straight games since the 2000 season.
-Iowa TE Tony Jackson is the only Hawkeye player from the state of Michigan.
-The last time an Iowa team had five turnovers came in a 36-14 loss against Purdue in 1998.
-Iowa dropped out of both major polls this week, ending a two-plus year run of being ranked. The last time Iowa was not ranked in one of the major polls was September 23rd, 2002.
-Iowa averages 4.6 yards on 110 first down plays, 3.3 yards on 84 second down plays, 5.2 yards on 60 third down plays and -0.5 yards on four fourth down plays.


Iowa's game at Michigan marked the fourth time in four games that Iowa has played before a sellout crowd this season. Iowa's first two games at home were against Kent State and Iowa State, and both road contests, at Arizona State and Michigan, were sold out.

ATTENDANCE --Less than 500 tickets remain. A sellout is expected. Learfield Communications will broadcast the game on the radio. Gary Dolphin and Ed Podolak will call the action along with sideline reporter Rob Brooks.

TELEVISION --ESPN+ is televising the game to a Big Ten regional audience. Announcers are Wayne Larrivee and Randy Wright. In Iowa, your regular local television channel will carry the game.

HOMECOMING --This is homecoming weekend.Iowa is 48-39-5 in its 92 previous homecoming games. Michigan State has been Iowa 's homecoming opponent in Iowa City six times and Iowa holds a 5-0-1 record in those games. The most recent homecoming game saw Iowa winning (21-16)in 2000, snapping Iowa's 13-game Big Ten losing streak.

COACHING RECORDS --Kirk Ferentz is in his ninth year as a college head coach and his sixth year at Iowa. His career record is 46-52 and he 's 34-31 at Iowa. Ferentz is 2-3 vs. Michigan State. John L. Smith is in his second year at Michigan State and his 16th as a collegiate head coach. He has a 10-7 record at the school and a career record of 120-67. He is 1-0 vs.Iowa and Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz.
