Doering: Leader Changes 'Week to Week'

Barrington (Il) OL Dan Doering (6-6, 290, 5.0) denies a leader but favors Miami, Iowa (visited), Nebraska (visited), Tennessee (visited), Oklahoma, Ohio St (visited) and Notre Dame (visited). All have offered. "My leader changes week-to-week and I'd rather decline in saying one than get people talking. When January comes along, I'll have my leader," says Doering.

"I've only heard good things about Miami and I know that it is a great university with a great campus. OL coach (Art) Kehoe has always been around when it seems that other coaches there come and go. It's an all-around good school. I like their intensity and no messin' around attitude--you get the job done there and you do it the best that you can. They have a really athletic offensive line.

"Iowa was the third to offer and they have a great coaching staff. I've developed a good relationship with the coaches and they have a good strength program. Coach (Chris) Doyle (strength and conditioning) does a good job at getting the players in shape. They have a good background in teaching their players how to block--comparable to the NFL. I like the campus there and that it's near my hometown.

"I like Nebraska's coach (Bill) Callahan and OL coach (Dennis) Wagner is a great guy. The program there is strong…outstanding really and they have good academics. They actually have the most academic all-Americans in the NCAA. It's a great football school…I mean it's Nebraska.

"Tennessee's coach (Phillip) Fulmer has played there and he's like a legend. They have a great educational program there and I have only heard good things about them. I like the players there and they have great alumni. I also like their facilities.

"Oklahoma is low on their OLs and the program right now is good. I like what I hear down there and it's a good location. Coach (Kevin) Wilson (OL/run game coord) is a great guy.

"Ohio St has a great campus and really nice facilities. The coaching staff there is solid. I like coach (Jim) Tressel and his brother Dick Tressel (RBs). I get a good feeling from that program and I like what they're doing right now.

"Notre Dame is the Mecca of college football--if you get a degree from there you are set in life. I like the student body and how they support the team. There is a lot of character down there and the campus has it too. I like everything they have to offer."

Other offers include LSU, USC and Michigan.

Doering has set official trips for Notre Dame (12/4) and Iowa (12/11) and says he will also visit Nebraska.

Barrington is 3-2 (stats unavailable).
