Kirkpatrick Taking His Time

Iowa wants to sign at least one more defensive tackle, possibly two, and currently L.C. Kirkpatrick has moved to the top of the wish list. L.C. appears to be another prospect that is still awaiting word on academics, but Iowa has put faith in him by sticking by him while other schools have backed off. Will this help pay off for Iowa come Signing Day?

A prospect that has been of much interest to Hawk fans the past few months has certainly been DT L.C. Kirkpatrick. He made his official visit to Iowa City on the weekend of December 15th. Now L.C. will be busy taking visits again this month.

"I'm likely going to visit New Mexico State, Grambling, Houston, and maybe Baylor," L.C. said. "None of the visits are official, yet, just tenative."

Why would L.C. visit some of these smaller schools with Iowa after him? Hawk fans would have to respect his decision.

"I'm given five official visits so why not use them all? I just want to enjoy myself and give all these schools a chance by seeing their surroundings."

After a very impressive outing at NIKE Camp this past summer, L.C. had a flurry of big time programs, such as LSU, Texas A&M, and Minnesota, showing heavy interest. One reason these schools may have backed off is because of the uncertainity of L.C.'s test scores. L.C. took the SAT and ACT in December and will be receiving his test scores back real soon. Iowa has put faith in L.C. and stuck with him throughout the whole way, and with L.C.'s GPA being around a 3.0, he should have no problem qualifying. This has paid off for Iowa in the past with prospects like Bob Sanders and Darius Butler.

"I'm not totally sure why any schools backed off, but when they backed off I backed off, also. I'll just prove to them why they were wrong for not sticking with me on the field."

L.C. is another prospect that took in the action of the Hawkeye victory in the Alamo Bowl. The performance helped Iowa's chances, this time with a Texas native.

"It was a good game. I saw the big guy (Derrick Pickens) intercept the pass and he is from Houston so that was cool. I met him on my visit. I was very impressed with Iowa's defense. They stuck to the same plan they were going over when I took my visit in December so I know the staff knows how to prepare for a game."

While L.C. has some tenative visits scheduled, you have to believe the staff will work hard on gaining L.C.'s commitment shortly. L.C. is one of the best unknown secrets at DT, proved by his performance at the NIKE Camp. Brentt Eads, TheInsiders National Recruiting Expert, and StudentSports certainly would have no problem with predicting success for L.C. in the Big Ten in a HAWKEYE uniform.
