Hawkeye Women Rise to 8-0

Iowa trailed by 15 points with 13 minutes to go at Creighton Friday night before rallying for a 91-82 overtime victory. The team's 8-0 start equals the best start since the 1993 team accomplished the feat. Freshman Krista VandeVenter enjoyed a breakout game with 19 points and 14 rebounds for the winners, while teammates Jamie Cavey added 20 points and 10 boards. Iowa trailed 44-31 at the half, marking the first time this season the Hawkeyes trailed at the break.

Iowa shot a blistering 70 percent in the second half (19-27) and 83.3 percent (5-6) in overtime.

Creighton built its 13-point halftime advantage on the strength of 8-9 (88.9 percent) shooting from 3-point range in the first half. The Bluejays out-scored the Hawkeyes 24-3 beyond the arc in the first stanza and 33-3 for the game. Creighton's 11 triples are a season high for an Iowa opponent.

Iowa had two players post double-doubles (Jamie Cavey and Krista VandeVenter).

Jamie Cavey established a new career high in assists (7) and matched her career high in rebounds (10).

VandeVenter posted career highs in points (19) and rebounds (14).

Iowa improves to 2-0 against the Missouri Valley Conference.

Tonight's victory snaps a three-game losing skid to Creighton.

Crystal Smith finished with a team-high 23 points. Smith has scored 20 points or more three times this season.

Tonight marks the second consecutive game Iowa and Creighton have played an overtime contest.

Iowa scored 58 pf its 91 points in the paint.
