Lennix Talks Recruiting; Iowa Leads

Iowa is on the lookout for talented linebackers this year, as they are nearing the time when Abdul Hodge and Chad Greenway will be moving on to NFL pastures. With their Mike and Will positions coming open at the end of next season, and with Ed Miles being a junior next season at Leo, the Hawks are digging for some talent. The Hawks are after Elijah Hodge, Freddie Lenix and Lamont Robinson. Lenix talks about his leader in this piece; the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Ohio athlete Fred Lenix (5-11, 195, 4.5, Scout.com's #26 linebacker) now says Iowa (12/10 official trip) leads slightly over Wisconsin (12/3), Ohio State (1/8), Michigan State (12/17) and North Carolina.

"Iowa leads slightly for me and it's not that big of a lead they have on the other schools," says Lenix, from Cleveland Gainesville.

"I like how the coaches run the program there and I really like the players there. They make their players on defense so good that they start to become really physical, and a dominating defense on the field. Not many programs can do that. Iowa just has a well-rounded program.

"Wisconsin has a great academic program. The academic support they have helps you stay on top of your grades. They're also a pretty decent team. They've also got a physical defense but it's not as physical as Iowa's.

"That has got to be the main thing that I'm looking at…how physical a program's defense is.

"My trip to Michigan State went good. I think it would've been better if I had gone on another day. There were no people on the campus because they were all out for school. But the players there showed me a good time.

"Mike Bell (safety/wide receiver) was my host and he took me out and showed me around. I also got to enjoy myself at some of the other players' apartments.

"The highlight of the experience was talking with coach (John L.) Smith. He's a funny guy and he's got a real good sense of humor. Everything went good with him.

"I basically told the coaches there that it would be a nice choice to go to that school, but I'm keeping my options open at this point.

"I'm going to decide where I want to commit after I take my all of my official visits."

Lenix says he also expects to officially visit North Carolina.

Final SR (12-2) stats: 147 tackles/12 sacks/2 INT-2 TDs/2 FC/2 FR-1 TD
