Milford Prep Update: Shonn Greene & Julian Smith

With the unknown academic status of Shonn Greene and watching Iowa no longer recruit Ken Tinney, some may have thought Iowa no longer would use a connection with Milford Academy. That is not the case, though, as Greene could still be a part of the Class of 2005, and Iowa has put themselves in position to add a Milford member to their Class of 2006.

There has been a lot of speculation this winter as to whether or not Shonn Greene would be a part of the Hawkeye Class of 2005.

With three running backs already set to sign with the Hawks on Wednesday, is there any possibility Iowa would still sign Greene?

"Shonn is taking his test this week as his last one was cancelled due to weather," said Milford head coach Bill Chaplick. "He is still set to join Iowa, and just needs to make sure that he gets the necessary score on the test."

HawkeyeNation.com is still not ready to remove the yellow flag in this instance, though, as there is still details that need to be worked out. However, Coach Chaplick has a tight relationship with the Hawkeye coaches, and you have to listen to what he says concerning the situation.

Hawks Place Potential "Leo" Backer at Milford

The Iowa Hawkeyes wanted a "Leo" backer badly in the Class of 2005, and may have found their guy, but will have to wait until 2006.

"Iowa has placed Julian Smith here for the spring, and he will play for us next fall," Chaplick told Scout.com. "He is not that bad academically so if he takes care of his work, he should be good to go out to Iowa next January."

"We have only seen him in workouts to this point, but he is an impressive looking guy. We are going to play him at linebacker, at our Rover position, and I know Iowa likes him as an outside linebacker."

Smith is 6'4 and 220 pounds, having been timed in the forty yard dash at 4.6 seconds. He attended Plymouth Canton HS in Canton, Michigan. He was offered scholarships by Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan.
