Arnaud Favors In State Schools

The Hawkeyes and the Cyclones have offered Ames, Iowa QB Austen Arnaud. Other schools are taking note of his football talents. As of right now, Arnaud favors the two in-state schools. Read what he has to say about Iowa and Iowa State in this premium update.

Iowa quarterback Austen Arnaud (6-3, 205, 4.8) says Iowa State (offer) and Iowa (offer) lead slightly over Notre Dame, Virginia and Michigan.

"Now…I'm not shutting out any other schools that could end up offering me, but Iowa State and Iowa are the only two schools to offer me so far, so I'm going with them for right now," says Arnaud, from Ames High School.

"I'd really like to be set up and committed to a school before the season, at the latest, by the end of August.

"Iowa State was the first school to offer me at the end of my sophomore year. That's a definite plus with them. I mean, they know my talent, and have seen it, to give me the offer. I've got to give them a closer look and the benefit of the doubt, more so than some of the other schools, because they were the first to offer.

"I like how they're close to home and they've got an up-and-coming program. They've got some good young players there now, and they're getting a lot of quality guys coming in with this recent recruiting class.

"Iowa's program is also a plus for me because it's close to home. They also had a great recruiting class this past season. I like some of the veteran guys they got there, like Drew Tate (QB). They're going to be real good this next season.

"There's been a couple other schools that I've made contact with, but I don't know if they're going to offer me. My coach, Bruce Vertnen, actually spoke with the QB coach (David Cutcliffe) at Notre Dame today (3/22).

"I'm also in contact with coach (Al) Groh at Virginia. We talk about every two weeks.

"And Michigan coach (Scot) Loeffler (QBs) was actually at my school a couple months ago, so I've been able to speak with him too."

Arnaud attended the Elite 11 Regional workout last spring and has been to one-day camps at both Iowa and Iowa State. He will also go to the JR Day camps at Iowa and Iowa State, has scheduled a trip to Nebraska's JR Day camp on April 16, plans to attend Notre Dame's Spring Game on April 23 and will also go to the Nike combine at Kansas State on May 7.

"With summer coming up soon I really haven't made any plans about unofficial visits or going to any other camps," explained Arnaud. "I might play some summer baseball, as a pitcher, so there might be some time restraints on taking those visits. But I did speak with coach Groh about maybe going to Virginia for a visit this summer.

"I've got good feet in the pocket and I can move well for my size. I've also got a strong arm and I can throw the ball about 60 or 65 yds. I really want to improve my vision on the field, and start being able to pick apart certain pass coverages."
