There hasn't been a more talked about offensive lineman in Illinois in March than John Gewont. The 6-foot-5, 285-pounder, from Palos Hills (Stagg) will be on hand at the Scout.com combine April 23rd in Champaign.
"We're all going down to Champaign later this month to watch John (Gewont)." Said Stagg coach Jim Zimmer.
"John could be the best lineman in the history of Stagg High School. What seperates John from others is his work-ethic. He's always working hard to get better.
"John's strength is his run blocking but he's also a very good pass blocker. His footwork is exceptional. John's 2nd and 3rd step off the ball and into the 2nd level is tremendous."
Gewont started at guard for Stagg last year and that's exactly where we project him at the next level.
The last time we spoke with John Gewont he said that Michigan, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Illinois and Purdue were his favorites. John asked us to add a few schools to his wish list.
"Nebraska and Iowa have been sending a lot of hand-written mail. I'm going to Notre Dame on April 2nd and I'm going to get out to Iowa this spring as well." Gewont said.
